Three hardy souls set out on a 650-mile march,
planning to follow essentially the same route
and to stop at the same places on the same days
(225 years later) as the French troops did in 1781.

The marchers are Mike Fitzgerald, David Fagerberg, and David Holloway.
Holloway is a member of the Sixth Connecticut Regiment
and also a member of the Connecticut Society SAR).

The group began their march (as most of the French troops did)
with a boat ride from Newport to Providence.***
Several other living historians joined them --
Lee Patrick Anderson is at the left, then Holloway,
Fitzgerald, Fagerberg, and Richard Swartwout.

Their support vehicles are decorated with an illustration
(by David R. Wagner, shown above) of French troops marching on the W3R.**

The Sixth Connecticut Regiment (re-enactors) provided the support van
and trailer, which are driven by re-enactors Rose Morin and Richard Swartout.
Swartout is also a member of the Connecticut Society SAR.

The group started their land march in Cranston RI. Here the group is marching
west on Route 12 just before the Kent Dam (Scituate Reservoir) in RI.**
The uniforms are U.S. Continental;, the flag is from the Régiment de Bourbonnais (French).

The marchers stopped at Waterman's Tavern for refreshment.***

On June 19 they reached the Connecticut state line, where a gateway sign
(placed by the Rhode Island Dept. of Transportation) marked the W3R.***
