History of the Efforts to recognize French assistance to the United States during their War for Independence. This history covers the time between 1926 -- the sesquicentennial of the start of the Revolutionary War -- through 2004, when the W3R®-US organization was incorporated, to 2009 -- when the U.S. Congress designated the Washington- Rochambeau Revolutionary Route as a National Historic Trail. The National Park Service uses the acronym WARO when referring to this specific National Historic Trail.

The W3R®-US uses the acronym WRRR to refer to the entire set of historical events related to the French Expeditionary Force coming to the U.S. in 1780-81 through its leaving the U.S. in 1783-4. This definition covers a wider range of events than does the Congressionally-specified WARO National Historic Trail.
