The W3R® of Delaware held several events to recognize
and publicize the role of black patriots in the American Revolution.
The soldiers of the Rhode Island Regiment -- many of whom had African ancestors) --
guarded the French encampment in Newport during the summer of 1780,
when many of the French troops were very ill from the long sea voyage.
In 1781 the Rhode Island Regiment marched with the French to New York and continued with the allied troops to Yorktown VA for the siege and surrender that effectively ended military battles in the United States. |
