The W3R of France

Due to differences in the legal codes for the two nations
the W3R of France is a separate organization from the W3R-US

Chair: General of the Army (Ret.) Gilbert Forray

France was the first ally of the U.S. and sent hundreds of officers and thousands of troops and sailors to the U.S. as part of its commitment to helping the U.S. achieve independence from Great Britain.

The Society of the Cincinnati was formed at the end of the American Revolution from the officers of the Continental Army and Navy and their comrades-in-arms in the French Army and Navy. Later on the Daughters of the Cincinnati was formed to include female descendants. Many original certificates signed by George Washington have survived as documents treasured by descendants in the U.S. and France.

The National Society, Sons of the American Revolution has an allied National Society in France -- la Société en France des Fils de la Révolution Américaine The National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution is made up of state societies in each of the U.S. states and the Rochambeau Chapter of the DAR in France.

The historical research and commemorative activities of the French units of these organizations (and others not listed here) are primarily focused on the events and people of the W3R. As an indication of the centuries-long and on-going interest of the French people in the W3R we shall include some events in France as we hear of them.
